GNEVE Command KeysThere is a 3 member community for using GNU Emacs as a video editor based on GPL-ed free software: mplayer and avidemux. They now have now a working proof of concept GNU Emacs video editor mode in an alpha stage. GNU Emacs is used for composing an Edit Decision List using mplayer for previewing films and using avidemux for rendering final edited movie. The crazy thing is if you think that Emacs is ideal also for editing videos we welcome you and may ask for your kind support.

Ok, I love emacs as a text editor. And before I’ve played with some of the other options that you can use emacs for (ie. a web browser and/or tetris and such).

But taking an editor based around text, and expecting to be able to use it to edit a very visual medium seems strange. Plus I’ve got to wonder how you’d be able to express the editing points and such. I expect as times goes on they’ll post some screenshots of it in action… but right now it seems close to a joke.

Now the Video Editing under Ubuntu isn’t the best (in fact I’d say its pretty freaking weak), but this seems… inadequate.
