In science fiction, the archetypal hero is the starship captain – doughty scientist-explorers setting off across the uncharted reaches of the cosmos in search of new life, new civilizations. You know the drill.
This is a list of 20 famous starship captains from fiction. (To me, a starship is an interplanetary vessel – interstellar seemed too limiting. As a result, there are no historical starship captains as of yet. Except maybe L. Ron Hubbard.)
I have to say he’s found or listed some interesting captains… but the best? I think he tried more to mix it up. I will say the mix brought to mind some great movies and TV shows. As for the captains abilities? He lists Galactic President Zaphod Beeblebrox of the Heart of Gold. A smart idiot in The Hitchhikers Guide the book. But in the movie it was an insipid badly done clone of the “Great President of the Galaxy.”
But the trouble the guy went through makes this post worthy of a visit. In reading the different captain, you too will be reminded of some great movies/TV shows.
