Zippos have been with troops since WWII when they first made themselves felt. Over the years they may of changed but after time they settled into the familiar shape you see today. Here are a a number of zippos photographed (if one person owns all these then he’s sitting on a gold mine) showing the great detail that was put into etching them in some cases.

My granddad used to talk to me about it. Every day he’s into war, he never failed to light up one cigar with one of his zippos. It somehow made him feel more alive even if there’s just too much going on around him. This article made me miss him even more.
