WordPress, out of the terrible 2-3’s and now 4 years old!

Lorelle on WordPress noted that the celebrations had begun and pointed to [...] the first post and comment by Matt Mullenweg that led to WordPress in the very beginning of this famous blogging story.
Now I feel young. Wordpress has been around “maturing” for 4 years now, and I only started last year. Mind it’s now been a little over a year since I started… but I started using Wordpress soon after it went 2.0 and really cleaned up. I know I’d get arguments on that as 1.5 is still very used and has a community all it own. But I think Wordpress can stand the splitting. They recently released 2.1 and at the same time promised continued developement of the 2.0 branch. Mind I think that was more for fixing bugs then adding features, but its nice to see a Dev Team do that. Rather then orphan an older version and work only with a new version.
Now I said Terrible 2-3’s… and I think for a piece of software Wordpress has generally been pretty problem free in that area. I didn’t see tons of advisories… and the Dev team seemed to keep on top of the ones that they did run across, and release patches quickly fixing them. But it does make me wonder… now that they are four (considered an easy age) will it get better or are the small issues people are having with Wordpress 2.1 a forsight of things to come?
All in all I have to wish Wordpress a Happy Birthday and I hope Automattic are either having fun, or had fun down in Mexico… ![]()
