Wordpress.com reaches half a Mil… if only he had a nickle…

Today WordPress.com passed 500,000 blogs.

I had that thought as I read this. But I realized that the Wordpress crew probably get more then a nickle (in VC and ad funds (though no ads in the blogs).

I was also curious how many Blogger and Typepad blogs there where, and I realized it was moot. Another thing, besides the great uptime and quality, is the quality of the posts. Blogger is known for the large number of spam blogs, and dead blogs.  Typepad has a good blogging system, that is for pay, and a number of bigger blogs use it (Dilbert’s is one that quickly comes to mind).  But the administration and lack of innovation has really led to Wordpress’ success in comparison.

Props to the Automattic crew and Matt.
