We don’t receive too many emails from Time Magazine. Okay, okay, we’ve never received any. But late Friday afternoon we found an email in our inboxes with cartoon penguins and a short message saying meebo was selected as one of Time’s Top 50 Coolest Websites for 2006. We’re happy to see some of our favorite websites listed as well like digg, Kayak, yelp, and YouTube. Of course, Theo and Sophie prefer Cute Overload. If you were one of the Time readers who nominated meebo, we sincerely appreciate your support! We’re thrilled to be in the top 50 and are looking forward to delivering new features and improving the meebo experience.
The Time article reads:
meebo
In geekspeak, it’s an IM unifier. In plain English, it’s a one-stop shop for all your instant-messaging needs. Which is to say that Meebo puts all your IM clients — the individual programs that make instant-messaging services incompatible with one another — into one browser window. There’s no need to download all the different apps (MSN, AOL/ICQ, Yahoo, Jabber/Gtalk) to your computer to have any and all types of IM conversations. Available in four dozen languages.
We couldn’t have said it better ourselves!
Meebo has been a nice addition. I’ve had the rare interesting conversation with someone popping onto my blog and wanting to comment about a story, or just say hi. I find it hard to call it a Top 50… just because it hasn’t been making waves until really recently. But I do see where people have fallen in love with it.
Props to Meebo making the list, and it’s nice some of the other sites I frequent quite often made it.
