It’s amazing that it took the local fair for me to go see Smash Mouth in concert. Not really a second string band, I was shocked to find that the local fair actually had a good band.
The Napa Valley Town and Country fair started yesterday, and I went for the first time tonight because I heard that Smash Mouth was playing, and I had been wanting to see them for a while. I made sure to get there early, sat down and then realized I had forgotten my camera. The rocking concert started and I realized after a while that I would be wanting to write about this great concert… but I didn’t note the song set. Napa was one of the first stops in a tour for their new album Summer Girl that comes out September 5th. They even played a song from the new album… supposedly for the first time, and the couple they played from it showed it to be good. As the night went on they mixed in old songs and new songs. Music that they played for movies, and classic cover songs. The concert had all ages there, with thousands of 12 year olds, and senior citizens rocking along side every one else.
Great at playng the crowd, they got some bonus points when a kid ran onto the stage and started running around swing his shirt, and after the security tackled the kid and took him off (the whole time Steve Harwell continued singing), and after the song Steve asked the security guys to take care and not do that again, as he didn’t want any hurt kids (noting the number of teens).
